Good News! Subaru pulls its ad and pledges not to put great apes in future commercials!
April 15, 2008

Many of you alerted Primate Patrol after seeing the Subaru of America “Small Tent Big Event” television commercial that featured a young chimpanzee “actor.” After receiving your emails, we contacted Michael McHale, Director of Corporate Communications at Subaru. He was responsive and wanted to learn more about the abuse of great apes in entertainment.

Other organizations, including PETA, also put the pressure on Subaru and we are excited to announce that the company is no longer airing the commercial and has pledged never to use primates in their advertisements again. Michael McHale told PETA, "[D]ue to the issues surrounding their use in the entertainment industry, Subaru of America will not employ primates in its advertising in the future." You can read PETA’s full press release here.

This development would not have been accomplished without a growing public awareness of the inherent cruelty involved in using exotic animals for entertainment purposes. We want to thank you for your involvement in this movement – your efforts are essential in creating a voice for abused and exploited great apes.

What you can do:

Please take a moment to send a short email thanking Subaru of America for their new and progressive stance on the use of apes in advertising.
