Infant Gibbon Exploited on the Rachael Ray Show
December 31, 2007

On the December 13th episode of the Rachael Ray Show, a “wildlife expert” named Jarod Miller brought an infant gibbon on set as part of his act, Jarod Miller’s Wild Winter Wonderland.  Rachael Ray held the young gibbon while Miller paraded other non-domesticated animals on set, including a reindeer, an anaconda, a snowy owl, a gila monster, and an alpaca.

What you can do:

Please contact Rachael Ray to voice your disappointment in her show’s lack of concern for animal welfare.  You can also contact Jarod Miller and tell him that sacrificing the welfare of individual animals for the sake of “education” is unethical and unproductive.

Dear Rachael Ray,

I was extremely disappointed and saddened to see an infant gibbon passed around on the Rachael Ray show on December 13th.  Just like humans, gibbons have a very long dependency on their mothers and shouldn’t be separated from them at such a young age.  Further, gibbons are not props to be used for our amusement, and they certainly do not belong on television sets.  Please think of more creative and less exploitive ways to entertain your viewers in the future.  I look forward to hearing back from you on this urgent matter.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
