ACTION ALERT

Chimpanzee Exploited on NBC Game Show “1 vs. 100”
February 4, 2008

The February 1st episode of the NBC game show "1 vs. 100" featured a chimpanzee “actor” dressed in human clothing as a contestant. This cruel and demeaning stunt was meant to show how “stupid” the human competitor must be if they couldn’t outwit a “monkey.”

What you can do:

Please contact NBC and express your dismay at their irresponsible choice to exploit a chimpanzee on their show for a cheap laugh.  Let them know that you will not support television entertainment that promotes animal cruelty and human ignorance.

  • Email NBC through their web site by clicking here. Choose “1 vs. 100” from the Shows drop-down menu to view the appropriate form.
  • Email Gary Burke, Vice President, Primetime & Specials, at Gary.Burke@nbcuni.com.

Dear NBC/Mr. Burke,

I was shocked and disturbed to see a young chimpanzee exploited on the February 1st episode of “1 vs. 100.”  Chimpanzees exploited for entertainment are taken away from their mothers at birth and endure physically and psychologically brutal training methods at the hands of their trainers.  Further, chimpanzees are an endangered species, and exploiting them on TV shows seriously hampers conservation efforts.  I hope that NBC will think twice before resorting to such cruel methods to attract viewers in the future.  I look forward to hearing from you on this urgent matter.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
