Sample Letter:
Dear Mr. Berlanti,
I was shocked and saddened by your decision to exploit chimpanzee “actors” on Eli Stone. Chimpanzees used for entertainment are taken away from their mothers at birth, causing irreparable psychological harm. Training methods are physically and psychologically abusive, and “retirement” at age 6 or 7 usually means being cast off to roadside zoos or other substandard facilities.
In addition to welfare concerns, using chimpanzees for advertising seriously hinders conservation efforts. In a recent study published in Science Magazine, zoo visitors were more likely to believe that gorillas and orangutans were endangered than chimpanzees because of the prevalence of chimpanzees in TV, movies and commercials. Please make the responsible decision never to exploit great apes for entertainment again. I look forward to hearing from you on this important matter.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
