Letter Writing is Very Effective
April 9, 2011
It was brought to Primate Patrol's attention that a commercial for "Anti Monkey Butt Powder" was seen featuring a chimpanzee actor. After some investigation, it appeared that the commercial was filmed a long time ago, but I wrote the company anyway, providing them with information about the plight of chimpanzees in entertainment.
The Vice President of New Products for Anti Monkey Butt Powder's parent company, DSE Healthcare Solutions, wrote me back. Mr. Raymond Abrahamsen thanked me for the information and made a pledge to never use primates again in future marketing productions.
This development would not have been accomplished without a growing public awareness about the inherent cruelty in exploiting primates for entertainment. DSE Healthcare Solutions' pledge on top of similar cases from Dodge, Pfizer, and most recently, Capital One, is evidence that letter-writing really does work!
Ten of the top 15 advertising agencies in the U.S. refuse to use great apes in their productions. Every new national advertisement in 2010 was either pulled or modified when the companies learned the truth about the use of primates in entertainment.
Keep up the good work – let's get every advertising agency to pledge against exploiting primates, and keep the pressure on CareerBuilder. Your advocacy efforts are essential in creating a voice for those who cannot be heard!
