Capital One Removes Ad Exploiting Chimpanzees
March 18, 2011
A couple weeks ago we alerted our supporters that Capital One was airing a commercial exploiting a chimpanzee. Capital One listened to chimpanzee advocates regarding the treatment of apes in entertainment. The company chose to remove the commercial from the air, and has made the compassionate pledge to never exploit primates in any of their commercials again.
Ten of the top 15 advertising agencies in the U.S. refuse to use great apes in their productions. Every new national advertisement in 2010 was either pulled or modified when the companies learned the truth about the use of primates in entertainment, including Pfizer and Dodge. In conjunction with the developments from these large corporations, we hope that Capital One has helped set an example for other companies – great apes do not belong behind the camera.
This development would not have been accomplished without a growing public awareness of the inherent cruelty involved in using apes for entertainment purposes. We want to thank you for your involvement in this movement – your efforts are essential in creating a voice for abused and exploited apes.
Please share this exciting news with your friends, and continue to spread the word about the issues surrounding primates in entertainment. You can make a difference! Keep putting pressure on CareerBuilder to let them know that their decision to use chimpanzees in their 2011 Super Bowl advertisement was irresponsible and wrong. Let’s get them to make the same pledge that Dodge, Pfizer, and Capital One have made!
